No senior citizens’ accommodation had been available up to now in the Lucerne locality of Malters. A suitable project was developed in close cooperation with the local authority. The chosen site was the former HUG biscuit factory close to the village centre with shops, post office, bank etc. directly opposite the old people’s and nursing home. The railway station with train connections to Lucerne/Bern is just 300 metres away.
In all, four buildings with 56 homes were constructed. The residential mix comprises 2.5, 3.5 and 4.5 room apartments, for rent and owner-occupied, as well as an indoor car park. Commercial spaces designed for use by service providers or small businesses have been built on the ground floor.
The project was completed in cooperation with the Diener & Diener Architekten architects’ practice of Basel. The buildings are Minergie certified. Heat for the estate is produced using ground water. In addition, the homes respect bonacasa construction standards.
